Magic Man won’t blow your mind. They’re crazy accessible in a dreamy, electronic, chilled, adjectival, retro way. There’s some 64 bit bleeps and blips, vocals that fall somewhere between Vampire Weekend and Antarctica Takes It and not much else in the way of instrumentation. It’s the type of thing I can see myself falling asleep to. Obviously I realise that that could be understood to be a criticism but I mean it in the best possible way. It’s the type of thing I could intentionally fall asleep to. You can thank Tom Lingafelter as you download his 10 track record for free.

Apparently the last Bombay Bicycle Club record didn’t sound much like their most recently released album Flaws. The last album was a little more upbeat while this newest album errs on the folkier side of things. I wouldn’t know but I hear a few people aren’t well pleased by this. To those people, I’d like to apologise on behalf of Bombay Bicycle Club. I don’t know if I’ve got the proper authority to deliver this apology but here it is.

“We’re really sorry we didn’t write the exact same album we put out last time. By way of apology, please accept this image of a cat riding a turtle.

So there we are. That should leave things all square. Here’s a track from that newest album entitled Ivy & Gold.

And for good measure, here’s one from the last album I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose.

They’re touring through the UK in support of the world’s most loveable hipster, the right honourable Darwin Deez. They sound something like a minimalist Vampire Weekend. They’re unoffensive and they have three free songs for you to download. They are Cadets.

It’s been five years since Sufjan dropped his last album. Around 18 hours ago, without warning, without advertising (though to be fair, fools like me will do that on his behalf) Sufjan Stevens released All The Delighted People. It’s 8 tracks which is in my eyes neither EP nor album but some hybrid of the two. The man is a visionary. The choral arrangements on the opening track are cosmic. Admittedly, that’s the only track I’ve listened to but I refuse to listen to this EP for the first time as I fall asleep. This is getting my undivided attention tomorrow morning when I wake. Stream the entire album in full right here or purchase it from Sufjan Stevens’ Bandcamp for a mere five American dollars. Credit to Sam Manchester for the intercontinental tip-off.

I’ll be remaining on this side of the Harbour Bridge tonight and seeing a good band play at a good venue. Impossible I hear you say. Not so! The Gate is a backyard in North Ryde that has begun putting on shows for ten dollars a pop. Tonight sees Guineafowl headlining and Guinefowl are pretty swish. They’ve had a lot of buzz mostly because of their single Botanist which is here for your listening pleasure and a free download. There should be a small group of us attending (among the larger crowd) so get amongst it.
