I don’t feel as strongly about No Light Bright Light as I did about the self titled debut that Isbells released last year. His voice and the acoustic accompaniment is starting to sound a little bit too close to Jason Mraz for my liking but because they’ve already got me onside I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Like 90% of girls in clubs, there’s not a lot of thought or care to it but it’s certainly very, very pretty.

Here’s another absolute gem that Katie Brown put on my plate a few weeks back and has since made for a tasty feast. The thing about a good meal though, is that you don’t want to overeat. Thankfully that’s not a risk with Fierce Creatures who have slow roasted but one EP over the past two years. And for those who are now wondering, “Tommy! How much longer can this clumsy cooking analogy last!?”, I’ll answer that with these next few sentences. The one off banquet that Fierce Creatures have prepared for you is seasoned with folk stylings, gang vocals, electric guitar and what up and coming chefs these days are calling ‘indie’, whatever the hell that is. Attach your bib, loosen your belt and tuck into this.

There’s a massive, rich weight residing in the beat of Summer, the below streamed track from Ireland’s MOTHS. It’s the kind of weight that makes a rope snap on a tire swing or the compression mechanism fail on an office chair. You guessed it, I’m talking about fat person weight. Not chubby person, we’re talking the lumbering obesity of a lifelong glutton here. On top of said weighty bass is a wet stringed melody. Look at me writing all pretty about this thing. Keen to hear your thoughts. Granted it could benefit from a little bit more build over the course of the track but I’m still vibing this pretty hard.

The one man-band that is Tim Fitz is producing some pretty beautiful songs. When you download his Infinite Space EP (and you will, because it’s the always pleasing combination of awesome and free) you’ll quickly realise that Tim Fitz doesn’t stick to one single style or genre. The guy can play more instruments than I can name and I can name heaps of instruments. He’s a 20-something year old Sydneysider and he’s getting stronger with every release. I’d give you a track from his earlier EP but it doesn’t hold a candle to his most recent. Enjoy.

This is the new home of Sound Doctrine blog. Hopefully the change is a positive one. I didn’t bring this up before hand because I thought people might object but the design, hosting, domain name etc has cost me a total of about 900 dollars so if both of my readers could pitch in $450 that should cover it.
Here is a list of the new stuff you should know:
• The site looks really good now so when you are looking at it, you should remember that it looks really good. Jez Milledge is the dude to thank for that. So many small tweaks fixed. Sarah Adamson did the graphics. These are good people.
• You now have the option of clicking the Facebook ‘like’ button (bottom left of every post). This won’t automatically come up on your facebook wall unless you ask it to.
• You can also click the Tweet buttom (same place). I don’t really know what that does. Something something on Twitter or something.
• You can, as always, still follow on Facebook by heading here or on Twitter by heading here.
• There is a link up the top to go to the Sound Doctrine shop. It’s sort of a shop but it’s also sort of just a series of links that take you to real shops.
• I haven’t transferred every post over from the old SD yet so anything older than August is not here. I’ll do that soon, using science.
• Let me know if you spot anything not working and I’ll get on it.
