They’re touring through the UK in support of the world’s most loveable hipster, the right honourable Darwin Deez. They sound something like a minimalist Vampire Weekend. They’re unoffensive and they have three free songs for you to download. They are Cadets.

Kanye West has been releasing a song every Friday for the past month and a bit. He’s willing to sell them to you for the reasonable price of your email address (which is valid currency in today’s music transaction system). Each track is pregnant with collaboration with Jay-Z, Raekown, Bon Iver, Justin Bieber and Kid Cudi among the artists that have featured in the five tracks so far released. I had a hard time deciding what track I’d stream but Raekown’s opening verse on Runaway Love won me over. I don’t know how I feel about Bieber’s vocals yet. I’m probably closing to liking them than hating them. He’ll be releasing a new track every Friday until Christmas.

Be the envy of all your friends with Lord Huron’s three song single! They’ll be like “listen to this track from Fleet Foxes! It’s called Ragged Wood!” and you’ll be all “Not even! I used to love Fleet Foxes but now they’re so passé. Lord Huron are the new Fleet Foxes”. You’ll be wrong because they’re not really the new Fleet Foxes but they do sound a little similar so I can see what you were talking about but to be quite frank you’ve got a bad attitude. Stop being so elitist. Here’s the track that you’re soon to love:

I know, it rules. And yes, you’re welcome. It’s the perfect soundtrack for the urban lumberjack. If you want to purchase their three tracks then head over to their bandcamp. Three dollars total. Alternatively, if you’re a cheapskate you can just download Into The Sun for free.
Matt Corby’s career path reads as follows-
2007: Australian Idol runner up
2008: Signed to Scorpio Music
2009: Brief stint being a Bon Iver cover band
And that leaves us in the here and now. His current music is pretty rock solid. Put aside your assumed prejudices and come to this with an open mind. Sure, he’s adapting to write music for whatever is the most marketable sound (and image- 2007, 2010) of the year but at least he’s good at it. And if television told us nothing else about him, the dude’s got a good voice.

James Blackwood (of Valar fame) once described Chad Van Gaalen as Sufjan Stevens on drugs, which I thought was funny since Sufjan Stevens already sounds like he’s on drugs. Maybe he meant that Chad Van Gaalen bridged the gap between the morphein that is Sufjan and the heroin that is his own style. I doubt either of them would be super keen to be compared with opiates but what I’m trying to say is not that they’re mind numbing but that they’re experimental and outlandish. Van Gaalen has a free album of B-Sides and remixes that you can pick up from his website (which is nothing at all akin to what you’re about to stream) and a full length out on Sub-Pop called Soft Airplane. If you think Sub Pop sound familiar it’s because they’ve released every album that you’ve ever enjoyed starting with Nirvana’s Bleach and culminating in the back catalogue of Band of Horses (with some Shins, Fleet Foxes and Postal Service thrown in there for kicks).

If you’re a personal friend of mine then you might recognise these two songs from a note I wrote on facebook a fair while back. There’s plenty of free tracks available for download from the Sub Pop website including both of these. Easy.
