Blve Diamond – Can’t Sleep (ft. J Lota)

Ohhhhh boy, I’m not in a writing mood tonight, no sir, no madam. It sure would be a lot easier to have a nice little lie down amd a ferrero rocher or one of the ones with coconut on them, which, I might note, bang very hard. But we’re not gonna do that, they can keep their coconut and I’m gonna stay vertical (ish) because I gotta give you this one from Northside Meanjin, Congolese Australian rapper Blve Diamond. Cool as ice and smoother than a silken fitted sheet, specially with that bassline walking all over the joint. Uh oh, we’re two minutes in now and we’ve got ourselves a beat switch, something a little piano based is it? Don’t mind if I do. All the way through, Blve just spills on the track, flow immaculate and vocal flavour delicious and suddenly you realize that you’ve been buried in this record for a few minutes now but you’re not even halfway through? You’re three minutes in and it’s ANOTHER production switch up and Blve just doesn’t take the pan off the hotplate, this is heat on heat and we’re at a simmer. Around the 5:30 mark and it’s feature time from fellow Brisbane/Meanjin king J Lota and you’re welcome, that’s two rappers you hadn’t heard of yesterday that you can go crate digging for on soundcloud. Seven minutes and this thing is done but you’ll probably wanna go in for another run through, just to be safe.

This man has that 18 speed gearbox and he’s showing it off on this project with records that move in different ways. ‘My Heart’ has his vocals in a more sing-song state, melodic and clean. Honestly, worth a run through the whole project if you find yourself inclined.
