Magic Man won’t blow your mind. They’re crazy accessible in a dreamy, electronic, chilled, adjectival, retro way. There’s some 64 bit bleeps and blips, vocals that fall somewhere between Vampire Weekend and Antarctica Takes It and not much else in the way of instrumentation. It’s the type of thing I can see myself falling asleep to. Obviously I realise that that could be understood to be a criticism but I mean it in the best possible way. It’s the type of thing I could intentionally fall asleep to. You can thank Tom Lingafelter as you download his 10 track record for free.

Fishing are a Sydney based duo who make beats. This track managed to make it on to the Forkcast which is a pretty massive deal. It’s not the run of the mill Sound Doctrine band so hopefully you’ll come to this with an open mind and an open heart. No need for an open wallet though, it’s a free download if you know how to right click.

There’s something tropical about this track. Particularly from 1:40 when the loops turn into something a little damper. It sounds creepy but it’s what I’m hearing. Band art suits the song.

“I think it’s time for me to get out, because at the moment I’m only thinking about FISHING 21 hours a day, and they’re the waking moments. And even when I close my eyes I’m thinking about it.”

Gobble Gobble are bizarre. I think they’re summed up well by this, their main myspace page banner. Looking at this image I knew at once that I was about to listen to something special. I can’t think of another artist like them. The vocals are quavering but almost Phoenixesque at times while the blips and beeps make me feel like I just clocked a SNES game, and that’s surely a good thing. I had to run this by some serious music types to make sure that it was safe to write on and subsequently stream. A genuine worry was that this music might induce you to do something rash like amputate a limb or play hacky sack.

Urban Dictionary suggest that Gobble Gobble is the act of receiving fellatio while enjoying a delicious turkey feast on Thanksgiving. Honestly, that could be what their music is about. We’ll probably never know. At the end of the day Gobble Gobble are doing something new and exciting and I’m for it.

If you’d kindly click here then you can have yourself a free download of Lawn Knives. They have ten tracks you can listen to on their myspace but be warned, they get stranger the further down the playlist you get, eventually culminating in Sacred Dandruff and Alabaster Bodyworks. If you’d like the chance to buy some EP or album or even just download them for free then this is the link for you.
