I found myself so taken by this MATEK record that I’d begun to obsess over the structural. The warm piano chimes over a stutter step snare and kicks that pop in and out on a whim – it’s meticulous in its freedom, the kinda tableau that could speak its own story as an instrumental. But then MATEK adds her own vocal warmth and if you’re not smiling straight off from ‘Tekky Tek Tek, put it on the rec rec’ then I’m so sorry to say that unfortunately you may be without soul. At some point, you’ve been de-souled. And as much as I’d become I
Infatuated by the individuals elements of this record that MATEK didn’t just vibe over but actually produced her damn self, it’s the life and the joy of thing, as if you can hear how much joy Tek takes in the process of music making as you listen in real time.

Let this be the jumping off point for the whole BTB Enterprise catalog, a record label cofounded by Tek (another big dub) alongside her friends. The label hosts CDot, PINE, AD alongside MATEK and a tendency towards posse records means there’s a buffet of different tasters for you to dig into the whole label.
